Xbox SmartGlass out now for iPhone and iPad, replaces My Xbox Live iOS app
Xbox SmartGlass is finally available to download for iOS devices, letting you turn your iPhone and iPad into a smart remote.
Aside from the iPhone 5 support, there's not a lot else to report with regards to Xbox SmartGlass version 2.1, although I will say the app – along with its various functions – is a great way for iOS users to get a little taster of the tiled interface offered by the Windows 8 family. Apollo perhaps isn't an iPhone app if you want an instant fix. It demands you delve into the details, and fine-tune your settings. Also, it doesn't always create a realistic result. The SmartGlass app for iPhone and iPad allows users to remotely control their Xbox One from their phone, and with the latest update, you can do a lot more. TV and App Channels are now showcased in an easy-to-access OneGuide page. You can also manually cruise through your TV channels if you have service now. Twitch integration helps you discover live streaming gameplay through SmartGlass. SmartGlass is available for free from the iTunes App Store and can be downloaded from here. While Xbox SmartGlass is indeed available on Windows RT devices, it was expected to arrive on Windows Phone 8 first. Even the iPhone and iPad apps are still waiting in the wings.
Those with Android phones or tablets running 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher can download the app from Google Play now.
We've installed it on our Samsung Galaxy S2 and Sony Xperia T and will be posting some hands-on action soon. We cannot wait until we can type in YouTube and Bing search requests on our Xbox using something that's not a 360 controller.
Yes folks, the main appeal of SmartGlass is that it turns your phone or tablet into a second screen controller for your Xbox 360; swipe left and right to navigate menu screens, pause, play and control media as well as edit your Xbox LIVE profile.
Basically it's a cranked up version of what Microsoft was merely hinting at with the Xbox Companion app that launched on Windows Phone a year ago.

Remember that SmartGlass thing Microsoft demo'd at E3? Then it made its way into Windows Phone 8 and everyone who was NOT going to be a Windows Phone 8 user was left feeling jealous? Well, Microsoft is showering everyone with some serious love as they have released a SmartGlass app for iOS.
The app isn't actually a new app, but an updated version of the existing Xbox App. While the app is fully functional on the iPhone, it's the iPad version that really adds some serious functionality. Thanks to the huge real estate in terms of the screen, the iPad app allows easy browsing of related content on the tablet itself, along with the ease of typing in usernames and passwords into the console dialogues.
Now that Internet Explorer has also been integrated into the Xbox 360 Dashboard, thanks to SmartGlass, the browser will be a lot easier to use as the iPad (or iPhone) will share a keyboard/mouse like relationship with the console. Then of course, there is the ability to control playback and such of media files, browse your game library and also fire up a game right from the comfort of your iOS device.
